Why is there Teflon and Kynar- PVDF long lead times

Over the past year, the industry has experienced more difficulties than I have come across inside my thirty years experience. In the past I have seen sharp price increases, and I have seen several shortages, and delivery issues caused by resin allocations from plastic resin suppliers. This is the first occasion I have seen all these issues at one time.

PTFE Rod (TFE) and Kynar both are on allocation.

The two of these resins are in short supply. The  PTFE Sheeting product PTFE (TFE) along with PVDF  manufacturing requires a mineral called Fluorspar that is mined in Mongolia and China. The worldwide need for this mineral has risen significantly, as well as the supply has tightened. PTFE materials have high heat resistance, excellent chemical resistance and really low co-efficient of friction (slick) and is utilised throughout a bunch of purposes from non-stick fry pans to ptfe tape for use at home. This specific mineral is actually a important raw materials in the production of fluoropolymers, fluorolubricants and several refrigerants. This increasing amount of demand mixed with general shortage of raw materials is responsible for a dramatic price increase (almost double over the past year), shortages, and we expect these two factors to keep at it in the near future.
